I have been wanted to try a Bref Double poem and today seemed like an excellent opportunity.
The NaPoWriMo prompt for Day 18 was sounds of home. I grew up in northern Alabama and I have fantastic memories of growing up in my great grandmother’s yard surrounded by friends and cousins.
NaPoWriMo Day 18 – Sound of Home
‘Y’all want a cold drink?’
A drawl from the porch
Mingles with the cicada’s call
And local children’s giggles.
Hunkering down in the garden
His sanctuary, a place to think
Amongst the buzzing mosquitoes
And sharp notes of the fiddle.
Black curls swing and a wink
‘Don’t have a conniption fit!’
She rinses corn cobs in the sink
Country from a radio on the wall.
As the sun sets, orange and pink
Kids squeal with each trampoline fall.
